Battle Prayer

Dear Lord,

Today I put on the helmet of salvation.  Protect my mind from attacks by the enemy and give me sound thinking.

I put on the breastplate of righteousness. Guard my heart and emotions from assault. And let me be governed not by my emotions, but rather by the truth of your word.

I strap on the belt of truth.  I wrap myself in the faithfulness of Christ. Protect me from error by the truth of Christ alive in me.

I step into the sandals of peace. Use me to take your peace and your hope into the world today and let me stand firm in the face of any attack by the enemy. By anchoring me in your word, enable me to keep my footing.

I take up the shield of faith. Let the attacks of the world, the flesh and the devil, fall flat against this defensive gear.

Finally, I take up the sword of the Spirit, your personal word to me. Put your truth in my heart and mind in a fresh way, that is able to pierce the hearts and minds of those I encounter.

 Amen

Armour Prayer

(Dr. Chuck Davis, from Bold Christian)

Lord, you have instructed me in your word, to be strong in you and in your mighty power, You have commanded me to put on the full armor of God so that I can take my stand. I stand firm then, with…

The Belt of Truth: The Belt of truth pulls all of my pieces of armor together. The inner side of the belt represents integrity. I want to live in congruency, where my outer person matches my inner person. Lord, as I put on the belt of truth, keep me honest and transparent in my relations with others and keep my confession current with you. The outer side of the belt represents discernment Lord, as I buckle the belt, give me spiritual eyes to see the opposition that stands against me so that I might take active authority against it.

Breastplate of Righteousness: covers all of my vital organs, most importantly, -my heart. Jesus is my righteousness. Any attempt that I make at righteousness, on my own, are only filthy rags compared to your righteousness. Lord, as I put on the breastplate of righteousness I am reminded that I am made acceptable to you only through Jesus, and I ask you to live his righteousness through me by the Holy Spirit. Nothing can separate me from your love.  Feet fitted with readiness of the Gospel of Peace: Being reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, I am called to be an ambassador of reconciliation in this world. Lord, as I put on the Gospel of peace, I ask you to allow your light to shine through my life in order that people see you. And by your grace, may I be a peacemaker, and not merely a peacekeeper.

Shield of Faith: I am increasingly aware that I have an enemy of my soul, and that he opposes me. I take up the shield of faith to block his arrows. Faith is an active stance to believe your promises, Lord, instead of the lies of the enemy. At the core of your promises are two unchanging realities, you will never leave or forsake me, and greater is he who is in me than the who is in the world. Thus, I am secure.

Helmet of Salvation: Boldness in the battle comes through right thinking. Two of the principal tools of the enemy of my soul are lies and accusations. In Jesus name, I put on the helmet of salvation as I refuse the enemy’s declaration about me. Lord, I chose rather, your declarations over me to shape my thought process. And I chose to fill my mind with things of life rather than things of death.

Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit. This is the one offensive weapon of my armour. Lord I take up your word today to wield against the enemy of my soul. I ask you to illumine my mind by your Spirit, so that I might understand it. I ask you to refresh my mind with your word, so that it is close to hand to use it in battle. I ask you to give me courage to wield it through the actions of my life. Your word will not return void or empty.

Lord I trust that as I have taken up each of these pieces of armor, you will activate their effectiveness throughout this day. Grant me discernment for when to actively employ each piece. And finally, I ask that you would pray prayers by your Spirit, through me throughout this day.

Amen

The Lorica (Latin: holy armor) of St. Patrick

(St. Patrick (c.377), Revised by Chuck and Ingrid Davis, 2012)

 I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,

Through the strength of his descent for the judgement of doom,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of the expectation and hope of His imminent return.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In the preachings of apostles,
In the faith of confessors,
In the innocence of virgins,
In the deeds of righteous saints.

I arise today, through
God's strength to pilot me,
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptation of vices,
From everyone who desires me ill,
afar and near, alone or in a multitude.

I summon today
All these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel and merciless power
that opposes my body and soul,
Against all schemes and plans of the kingdom of darkness,

Against all curses and false judgements spoken or unspoken,

Against all accusations and lies of the enemy,

Against all false agreements and unholy alliances,

Conscious or unconscious,

Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul,

Christ shield me today!

Against any harm to my body, soul or spirit,

Against any harm to my family, earthly or spiritual,

Against any harm to the earthly things you have called me to steward,

So that I might live in the fullness of your blessing and abundance.

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every one who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

As I move into this day, I appropriate all this for myself and for all who are under my authority and influence.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
